What is Acidity?
Acidity has become a common problem nowadays. It is caused by over secretion of acid by the gastric glands in the stomach.
The main symptoms of acidity is burning sensation in the stomach, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, headache and dizziness. In some cases patient complains of heartburn or pain in stomach.
The main causes of acidity are eating spicy food, or irregular eating habits, taking excessive tea or coffee or alcohol. Sometimes overeating or under eating may also cause acidity. Here are a few natural home treatment for acidity.
Home Remedies for Heartburn or Acidity:
Acid Treatment with Jaggery(gur)
Sucking about 10 grams of jaggery after meal prevents acid formation. At the same time, it must also be noted that jaggery is very good for overall health . In spite of being sweet, it does not lead to weight gain. In ancient India, jaggery was the main sweetener used in the kitchen.
Acid Treatment with Ginger, Lemon and Honey
- Take Ginger Juice 10gm
- Lemon Juice 10gm
- Pure Honey 10gm.
- Mix all the above ingredients and take four times a day to get rid of gastric reflux.
Fight Stomach Acid with Banana
Banana have a natural antacid effect in the body. So if you suffer from heart burn, try eating a banana for soothing relief. Besides being healthy and nutritious , bananas are also very delicious. Adding one banana in our breakfast will really make you feel full and happy. It is also a good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin C, Potassium and Manganese, and a very good source of Vitamin B6.
Acid Treatment with Tomato and mint
Take a cup of tomato juice, add little ginger juice and little mint juice to it. Drinking this juice is very beneficial in acidity. Sometimes to make it easy chewing mint leaves directly also helps. I am in the habit of keeping dried mint leaves in a tight container and swallow a spoonful of it directly whenever I feel like. The cooling effect of mint shows immediate effects.
Treat Acid Stomach with Cold Milk
One of the simplest but most effective remedy to soothe acid stomach is drinking a glass full of cold milk. Sometimes the cold milk may be added with vanilla ice cream. It works faster in cooling down acid stomach. but taking too much of it may help in quick weight gain. However, plain cold milk can be taken on regular basis.
Acid Treatment with Orange
Extract the juice of one orange and mix a pinch of roasted cumin seed(jeera). Drinking it brings instant relief. But be cautious because sour oranges can worsen the problem. Make sure that the oranges are sweet. Sweet oranges can be eaten directly after dinner. It will calm your stomach and also cure constipation.b Sometimes the regular constipation problems also leads to acidity and vice versa.
Acid Treatment with Basil leaves
The medicinal properties of basil leaves are known for ages. Chewing thoroughly one or two fresh basil leaves provides instant relief to acidity.
Acid Treatment with Amla (Indian goose berry)
Amla got natural properties for healing stomach properties. It is high in Vitamin C. Taking amla in any form helps stomach to fight acidity and gas. In India candied Amla, known as Amla Murabba is widely used in traditional and folk medicine. Taking Amla Murabba for a month empty stomach cures the acidity problem forever. It can be easily at prepared and preserved at home in both dreied and jam form.
Acid Treatment with Fenugreek seeds(methi)
Fenugreek leaves and seeds are widely used in Indian kitchen. It is believed that fenugreek got high medicinal properties. Its bitter in taste. Soak a spoonful of fenugreek seeds in a glass of water overnight. Strain and drink the liquid empty stomach to get relief from acidity and gastric problems.
Treatment of Gastric Acidity with coconut water
Coconut water provides the stomach with necessary vitamins and minerals to function it normally. If the patient is suffering from gastric acidity, he may be given only fresh coconut water 24 hours and nothing else. Coconut water provides the stomach with rest and cures the problem.
Treatment of Gastritis and Acidity with Rice Gruel
Taking one cup of rice gruel twice daily helps in curing acute case of gastritis. It helps in inducing greater flow of gastric juices.
Besides the above handy remedies regular care and cautions goes a long way in getting over the problem.
- Drink at least two liter of water daily. Several doctors recommends the therapy of drinking water known as water therapy.
- Water should not be taken with meals as it delays digestion.
- Meals should not be taken in haste. Food should be chewed slowly and properly.
- Meal should be taken at least two hours before going to bed.
- Avoid over eating or eating improperly cooked food.
- Never eat badly combined food.
- Avoid alcohol,tobacco and aerated drinks.
- Avoid spices,sour foods, pickles, red chillies, condiments and strong coffee and tea.
- Try to take proper rest and sleep. Should not take too much stress and worries.
- Sometimes tension itself is enough to make the stomach acidic. If you cannot help it then go for some type of meditation and relaxation techniques.
- Take walk daily.
