Athletes foot, also known as Tinea Pedis, is a contagious fungal skin infection caused by a species of Trichophyton or Epidermophyton that usually affects the feet, especially the skin between the toes, and is characterized by itching, blisters, cracking, and scaling; ringworm of the foot.

This is one of the most common and irritating foot infections. This usually spreads through wet socks, bedding or bathrooms of swimming pool. This infection spread due to dampness. People who keep wearing socks and shoes for long period of time are usually more prone to it. This fungus grow in dampness and live on dead skin. So, the only way to prevent it is keeping the feet dry.

Here are few home remedies to solve this problem. In fact a little knowledge of the uses of fruits,. vegetables, herbs, plant and the basic kitchen condiments can help us to solve most of our beauty problems.

Home Recipes


Fill a tub with warm water. Add some crushed cloves of garlic and a little alcohol to the water. Soak your feet in the water. Relax for 10 minutes. Remove feet and dry them properly. Repeat the treatment 2 to 3 times a day. This provides tremendous relief.


You can use crushed ginger instead of garlic to make a similar treatment as above.

Coconut oil and Glycerine

Take half cup of coconut oil, one teaspoon glycerine and two tablespoon rosewater. Take a mixing bowl and pour all these ingredients together. Beat till a smooth paste is formed. Pour in a bottle. Use every night to prevent drying of the feet and cracks in the feet.

Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is very effective in curing this fungal infection because of its acidic nature. Take half cup of apple cider vinegar and mix equal quantity of water to dilute it. Now wash the infection with this solution. It kills the germs and helps to bring relief


Boil half a liter of water. Add five teaspoon  tea (not herbal tea). Strain and cool the left out liquid. Dip your feet into the liquid for half hour. Then pat dry your feet. The astringent property of tea kills the fungal infection effectively. Repeat the treatment twice daily for two to three weeks.

Plain Yoghurt

The healthy bacteria in plain unsweetened yoghurt helps to get rid of many fungal infections. If you need cure athlete feet then add more plain yoghurt in your diet.

At the same time apply yoghurt on the infected area. Let it stand for sometime. When the yoghurt dries up then wash your feet with luke warm water. Pat dry your feet carefully. For effective results try this remedy twice daily.

Melaleuca oil or Tea tree oil(TTO)

T ea tree oil is antimicrobial and used for treating a wide variety of medical conditions.It is also effective in a variety of dermatological conditions and skin infections. For treating athlete foot, Take 250 gram of pure T ea tree oil and mix with 250 grams of olive oil. Keep this solution in a bottle. Keep applying it on the infected area till you get complete relief.
